Wilhelm Walch Pinot Grigio Marat 2015 is from Italy, and is an ultra-serious rendition of Pinot Gris.
This is not your average, budget Grigio. What Wilhelm Walch (say Ville-helm Valk) brings to you is an ultra-serious rendition of Pinot Gris, grown in the cool climate and steep limestone hills of Alto Adige. The interplay of fresh alpine air and intense sunshine allows the grapes to ripen apple and peach flavours to perfection, with gorgeous lemony acidity and long, dusty mineral-laden finish. It has surprisingly rich body compared to most Italian Grigios, reflecting the élite site, mature vines and insistence on quality at this most respected winery. Definitely a wine worthy of B.C. spot prawns sautéed in butter and garlic, or pair with spaghetti carbonara.
