Telmo Rodriguez - Mountain Blanco Sierras de Malaga

If Spain has a poster boy for innovative wines, it is Telmo Rodriguez. Affectionately known as T-Rod, Telmo has thrust his considerable energy into preserving and celebrating Spain’s old vine patrimony, native grapes, and far flung terroirs. One of the most historically famous regions is Málaga, nestled in Spain’s mountainous Andalusia region. More than 2800 years of history makes this one of the oldest cities in the world. Pablo Picasso was born here, as was Zorro himself—heartthrob Antonio Banderas! Here is a Malaga Moscatel (this is the Muscat grape) with a twist… it’s crisp and dry rather than the traditional sweet dessert style. The vines grow in dramatically steep vineyards clinging 500 to 1000 metres above the Mediterranean Sea. The combination of slate soils and cooler marine air gives the wine a distinct freshness, minerality, and tension. Delicate white blossoms adorn the aromas, and the palate bursts with citrusy/grapey flavours. Zippy and stony, this is perfect for tapas or as an ice cold aperitif.
