Stoneboat Vineyards’ work is an excellent example of experienced growers engaging local terroir. Located on a small section of land at the Black Sage Bench’s northern tip locally referred to as the “Gravelbar,” Stoneboat’s complex soils consists of two to three feet of sandy, gravelly loam support by hundreds of feet of smooth, mineral-coated rocks deposited millions of years ago by glaciers. Pinot varietals are especially fond of this environment, sucking up minerals from the earth and expressing them in their trademark Gravelbar aromas and flavours. Great sun exposure and thoughtful farming methods work with the terrain to create grapes and wines that truly express a sense of place.
