Pouilly Fuissé bottle

First things first: Ricjkaert is pronounced (Rick-ert), and Pouilly Fuissé is a village in southern Burgundy’s Macon region famous for rich and well-fruited Chardonnay wines. Florent Rouve has taken over the reigns from his mentor Jean Ricjkaert (who for years was the winemaker at Verget), and the wines are more focused and nuanced than ever. This exuberant Chardonnay comes from steeply pitched, mature vineyards on the slopes of the rock of Solutré, where the sun beats down and the vines’ roots dig deeply into cool limestone soils. The resulting wine is powerful and mineral tinged. Mostly old barrels are used, with a modest percentage of new French oak and lengthy lees contact to build opulence. Pair its peach and exotic citrus flavours with rich seafood like Dungeness crab or spot prawns, or take a queue from the Burgundians and pair with intense creamy cheese like Epoisses.
