Without question Ridge Vineyards is considered to be one of the greatest wine estates in the world. Their storied history dates back to to 1885, when Osea Perrone purchased 180 acres on Monte Bello Ridge, which became the site of Monte Bello Winery. Almost sixty years later, a theologian by the name of William Short planted Cabernet Sauvignon, and after its growth and wine production, turned out to be some of the finest batches to come out of the region. After Geyserville’s first zinfandel was made in 1966, the vineyards went from fifteen acres to forty-five. After restoration, Ridge Vineyards established consistent, high quality production of many varieties, with the total number of vintage years exceeding forty. Distinct character and minimal intervention have always been the hallmarks of Ridge Vineyards, in the savant hands of Paul Draper, one of the worlds most treasured and admired winemakers. Though he recently retired, the ideals of Ridge will never waver.
