Plumpjack Syrah 2013 is a smoky, meaty, full-bodied red from two pedigreed Napa vineyards.
Gavin Newsom and Gordon Getty established PlumpJack Winery in 1995, inspired by one of Shakespeare’s most memorable characters, Sir John “PlumpJack” Falstaff. Plumpjack quickly became a celebrated Napa winery, with a special reputation for Syrah, a relative rarity in the Napa Valley. Syrah from two vineyards (one in cool Carneros, the other from the iconic sunny Stagecoach vineyard in Atlas Peak) combine, creating wonderful complexity and balance. This is a rich, bold, intense and concentrated wine from an outstanding, warm, dry year, producing small thick skinned grapes packed with explosive flavour. Classic Syrah aromas of smoke and pepper combine with blackberry and boysenberry, dark chocolate and mocha flavours. Aged in new and used oak barrels to smooth out considerable tannins and help this wine pair with a magnificent prime rib roast. Let breathe in a decanter before serving, or cellar for up to a decade. It’s pricey, but it’s also pedigreed.
