Parra y Familia - Pencopolitano

Although still relatively young, Chilean geologist Dr. Pedro Parra has become the world’s leading authority on vineyard soils. And despite busily consulting on cutting-edge projects around the world (including Okanagan Crush Pad Winery in the Okanagan and Blue Grouse in Cowichan), his greatest passion is at home in Southern Chile, where he makes Pencopolitano at his family winery. The grapes may vary - Carignan, Cinsault, Carmenere, Malbec, and always the once much-maligned ‘peasant grape’ Pais – but the red granite terroir never changes. This is visionary ‘back to the future’ wine, pulsating with Pedro’s beloved ‘mineral energy’, and it is always fun to drink. Drenched with black and blueberry fruit, with distinct graphite and dried herbal notes, the tannins are supple, and the finish is looooong. Roasted or grilled meat of any sort is required, but you could do what Pedro does, and have a spicy, beefy empanada.
