John and Trish Skinner established Painted Rock on a parcel of Skaha Bench land and former apricot orchard known as “The Black Hawk.” Since planting in 2005, they have produced premium, estate-grown fine wines under the guidance of Bordeaux-based consultant Alain Sutre. In their vineyard overlooking Skaha Lake, they grow five classic Bordeaux red grapes, creating a wealth of opportunities for creative-yet-classic blending, in addition to Chardonnay. Painted Rock is guided by a spirit of optimism. Their official position? That the Okanagan has long been capable of producing good wine. Only now is it ready to produce great wine — and Painted Rock’s is firmly part of that process.
