It’s a limited edition deluxe red blend that truly embodies 30 years’ of pioneering viticulture and site selection in the Okanagan Valley. Anthony von Mandl’s belief in the quality potential of this desert valley is a significant reason why our industry is so vital and critically acclaimed today. Oculus is a luxurious blend of Mission Hill’s highest quality vineyard blocks, farmed and harvested with meticulous care. Adapting to vintage conditions, the cépage is artfully blended then spends 14 months in French oak barrels, followed by the equivalent time meshing in the bottle before release. Rich and potent, with dark cassis fruit, brisk acidity and glorious structure, the 2012 is already showing impressive integration, thanks to supple, chamois-like tannins. There are just 76 barrels made each year, and this vintage is heralded as one of the finest since Oculus was first made in 1997. This vin de garde is destined for the dinner table, for a fine roast or vintage cheddar cheese. Decant now and serve in large-bowled glasses, or cellar for 15 years easily.
