Nivole Moscato d’Asti bottle

Some heavenly wines have tricky names, and this is one of them. The winery, Michele Chiarlo is pronounced mee-KAY-lay kee-ARR-loh, and this sublime sweet and gently frothy wine is called Nivole - said KNEE-voh-lay. From the alpine region of Piemonte using the Moscato grape, Nivole is made in a slightly sparkling way the Italians call ‘frizzante’. Moscato d’Asti wines are always made to have a little creamy effervescence (never the same fizz that Champagne has), low alcohol (like 5.5%) and a sweet finish. Powerfully aromatic with scents of white flowers, peaches and grapes, the flavours are repeat with more potency in the mouth - think orange creamsicle and rosewater. Nivole is perfectly balanced (never too sweet) for breakfast-in-bed waffles, peaches and whipped cream, or toast weekend brunch of ham with glazed pineapple and sweet potato gratin. A killer dessert pairing with this small format bottle is Nivole Moscato and Pavlova.
