Marchesi di Barolo’s Barbera del Monferrato Maraia is a full-bodied, suave red from a historic producer.
Sometimes a name says it all. ‘Maraia’ (say ma-RYE-ah) is the local dialect in Piedmont for rascal, and the frisky Barbera grape featured in this wine can be more than a little mischievous. Brilliant ruby-red in the glass, flavours of black cherry, wild berries and a touch of vanilla and spice richly coat the palate. Full-bodied with just the right amount of earthiness, it’s a perfect BBQ wine… sip a little while you tend the grill, and then serve with dinner. Marchesi di Barolo is a much-admired historic producer, especially appreciated for affordable and delicious wines from Piedmont. Barbera is the most planted grape in the region, and the clay-limestone soils of the village of Monferrato are considered blue chip terroir.
