Despite their name, the team at Laughing Stock is dead serious about making great wine. David and Cynthia Enns left an orderly, conservative life in the financial industry in 2003 to stake their fortunes on two vineyards in Naramata Bench and Osoyoos, and their gamble paid off. Both sites feature classic Bordeaux varieties, with the sun-soaked Osoyoos location especially suited to producing bigger-bodied reds. In the winery, fermentation takes place in French oak, concrete eggs, and — for limited production blends — two traditional clay amphorae from Italy. With finance-themed blends and wine “futures” on offer, the team at Laughing Stock have managed to sell critics and casual drinkers alike on the quality of their go-for-broke portfolio.
