Juan Gil
Pasico is an estate under the Bodegas Juan Gil umbrella. This remarkable fourth generation family-run wine estate has done the world a great favour: revealing the quality and complexity of the Monastrell grape. Old vineyards of this serious grape are dotted around Spain, but heavily concentrated in the region of Jumilla, south of the historic city of Valencia. Grapes struggle here, through hot summers of intense sun, long and cold winters, a difference of 25ºC between day and night, almost total absence of rainfall, and a dry and stony ground. Grown at high altitude and averaging 40 years of age, The result are wines of high expression, intensity and velvety texture. Monastrell is always the star grape, with small amounts of Syrah, Cabernet, Merlot or Petit Verdot blended in.
