After eleven years under Soviet and Nazi occupation, Josef Chromy left war-torn Czechoslovakia for Australia at the age of nineteen. Despite these hardships, Chromy was able to lay foundations for his winery. Today, no one should be fooled by Josef Chromy’s minimalist exterior. The winery is at the cutting edge of wine production, its walls encasing modern equipment of only the highest quality. Gentle destemming and pressing ensures grapes are handled in the most delicate manner. Aromatic juices flow delicately, as Josef Chromy’s German press enables extraction at low pressures. The cool-climate Tasmanian fruits are fully respected through the winery’s equipment and processes.
