Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino 2010 comes in a half-bottle. A highly-touted vintage, this powerful Sangiovese wine is complex and deserving of bistecca.
Brunello di Montalcino is a prestigious region within Tuscany, where the rolling vineyards surround the ramparted, hilltop town of Montalcino. Brunellos are always 100 percent Sangiovese, but this vintage comes from a special clone called Sangiovese Grosso. Sourced from hilly vineyards 500 – 1500 feet above the Mediterranean, the wine is made very traditionally with long maceration times to extract full flavour and colour, then aged for 3 years in big, used oak casks of 3,000 - 5,000 litres. Cherries, plums, and tobacco magically combine on the palate to produce a compelling, complex, and ultra-sophisticated red. Will age for decades if carefully cellared, but this HALF-BOTTLE size is just hitting its stride. The 2010 has been declared one of the best three in the last 50 years, and it fully demands a classic bistecca alla Fiorentina, or some stravecchio parmigiano reggiano.
