Fort Berens Estate Winery

The team behind Fort Berens believes in the potential of the Fraser Canyon to produce terrific wine. Founded by Rolf de Bruin and Heleen Pannekoek, it’s the first commercial vineyard to call Lillooet home, and it’s leader of the pack in terms of developing regional viticulture. Using a low-intervention approach to winemaking, Fort Berens takes advantage of their 20-acre vineyard’s position —- in line with the largest gap in the Coast Mountain range — to capture extra sunlight during the growing season, allowing them to cultivate six varieties of red and white grapes, including Cabernet Franc, even at the extreme latitude of 50.6 ० North. Established only in 2009, this exciting winery has already brought in a slew of national and provincial awards.
