The Guilisasti family founded Emiliana in 1986. The Chilean winery is committed to organically farmed grapes, and integrates them into their notable wines. Emiliana’s higher than premium wines are made through biodynamic farming techniques. This reorientation towards organic and biodynamic farming did not happen overnight. The process started in in the mid 1990s, with Emiliano progressively converting its 2812 acres of vineyards. Today, approximately 1470 acres are fully certified as organic and biodynamic, with the remaining acreage converting at a rate of 450 acres per year. Emiliano is the world leader as it relates to estate-grown organic wines. Alvaro Espinoza oversees the organic and biodynamic conversion, and his specialty in eco-balanced wines has made him indispensable to Emiliano’s mission.
