Les Domaines Barsalou Pays de l’Aude 2014 is a relaxed and deeply satisfying chewy red for your weeknight glass.
This is a true French countryside wine (pays means country) meaning it’s a little rustic, a little chewy, with a lot of personality and pleasure. Inky in colour, the nose reveals the fragrant scents of rosemary and lavender, with brooding flavours of black fruit, grilled herbs and spice box. Five generations of the Barsalou family have explored and interpreted the complex terroirs of the region known as the Aude - a scrubby landscape shaped by wind, sun and sea where vines have to hunker down and work hard to survive. Carignan is the stalwart grape of the land, and it’s featured in this steal-of-a-deal, along with plummy Merlot and spicy Syrah. It’s got weighty body for any bbq-ed cut of meat, and an overall casual vibe for your weeknight glass.
