Domaine Henri Gouges - Nuits-St-Georges 1er Clos des Porrets St-Georges Monopole

Nuit-St-Georges can be tight, unyielding and slow to develop. Not so in 2012 though, as this monopole (a vineyard owned by one sole domaine) from Clos des Porrets beautifully demonstrates. This is plush and juicy, with plenty of ripe griotte fruit, sweet bramble and soaring acidity. There is a firm edge of tannins, but the texture is surprisingly smooth, with a long muscular mineral finish. It will continue to evolve in the bottle for a decade, or have with sear duck breast and wild mushrooms, or roast leg of lamb.
