Like many great stories, Domaine Arlaud began with a love affair. It was after WW2, Joseph was from the south of France, Renée was from Burgundy. Wed in 1949, her dowry contained fine vineyards in the vaunted Côtes de Nuits. Fast forward to 1997 when grandson Cyprien takes charge, and sets his sights upon the notion of making pure, benchmark Burgundy. His first step was to devote himself to converting the vineyards to biodynamic viticulture (and they were certified in 2014), to use more old barrels, and adhere to patient, minimalist winemaking. This means low SO2 use, and no fining or filtering. The result is exceedingly pure-fruited, perfumed and effortless wines. Admired since its inception, Domaine Arlaud has vaulted to a rarified place in Burgundy lore.
