Clot de l’Oum Cine-Panettone Côtes du Roussillon Blanc 2011 is a five-grape field blend that transmits savoury complexity and mineral power.
This is an ultra-serious white wine from the foothills of the Pyrenees in the Roussillon region of France. From vineyards that teeter 500 metres above the Mediterranean, it has the kind of savoury mineral thrust that marks great whites. Built from a field blend of five white grapes planted in the late 1940s, (grey and white morphs of the Grenache grape, white Carignan, Macabeu and Muscat), Cine-Panettone’s intrigue factor is off the charts. The nose is a little tight still, but there are chamomile, marzipan and botanical aromas on quiet display. Far more expressive in the mouth, layers of savoury citrus and almond, with a creamy palate and prolonged earthy finish. This is not a fruit bomb, but rather a rock bomb, if that can be imagined. Decant like red wine and let unfurl for half an hour, and serve with really savoury cuisine like veal and mushrooms, herbal risotto, or aged funky cheese. Six years of bottle development gives this wine a slight petrol note and fantastic flavour integration. Certified organic, farmed biodynamically, and enthusiastically critically-acclaimed.
