Isolated splendidly for centuries, the Jura quietly cultivated its own traditions. The Jura is most famous for the oxidised, tangy Vin Jaune, but is now sending characterful wines to market made from distinctive local grapes, as well as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Château d’Arlay has the special reputation of being the oldest castle vineyard in all of France. Now in the superbly capable hands of Comte Alain de Laguiche, Château D’Arlay Côtes du Jura Rouge is a lovely example of the distinctiveness of Jurassic wine. Not Burgundian, not Swiss, not Italian - although in some ways reminiscent of the wines from those surrounding regions – this Pinot Noir is juicy, savoury, and full of the tartness of fresh berries. Perfect with steak frites, charcuterie or the famous Jura cheese — Comté (pronounced Com-tay). And just so you know, it comes from one of the hippest wine regions in the world!
