Anthony Gismondi's guest note:
This organic Malbec comes off Paraje Altamira not far from the village of La Consulta in the San Carlos department. All 25 hectares are organic and 22.5 hectares are planted to the flagship malbec at 1090 meters above sea level. The site is awash in large rocks and there is an accumulation of prized calcium on their surface. At three years-old the vines’ fruit and the wine is precocious with wonderful soft tannins and juicy pure black fruit flavours with surprising power and finesse for such a youthful project. Stunning quality for the price that would work with most roasted meats or chicken.
Here’s a chance to taste the true nature of Malbec and Argentina in one glass. Farmed organically in high altitude vineyards, Argento’s Organic Malbec Reserva bursts with violet perfume, blackberry and blueberry fruit flavours, all refreshed with natural lively acidity. Winemakers Silvia Corti and Alberto Antonini have shaped Argento’s house style along classic lines where savoury structure and terroir expression take centre stage. There is delightful finesse and freshness in this wine, along with smooth tannins and lovely spice character. The vineyards are high in the elite Uco Valley (imagine vines planted atop Grouse Mountain!) and benefit from intense luminous light, fresh breezes and a wide day-night temperature swing. Enjoy this red wine with spicy red meat, roasted lamb, or barbequed ribs.
